Why Do We Hem To Order?

First, what is hem to order?

At Dearborn Denim, we hem all our jeans to length before we ship. So, you’re not ordering general sizes that are meant to fit everyone - you’re ordering the length that fits YOU.

Well, we want happy customers who come back and buy more jeans. 

The longevity of this business depends on that fact. Happy jean purchasers are happy because they have a pair of jeans that “FIT PERFECT”. 

There are a lot of factors that go into a great fit, but the two variant measurements people have a choice about are:

1. size
2. length

Mass manufacturing wants to offer as few variants as possible because it’s easier to make one thing in mass - rather than multiple variants. The problem with their approach: Human beings come in a wide variety of sizes and heights.

They usually compromise with even sizes/lengths (30, 32, 34, 36, 38 ect.) The strategy of limiting to even sizing provides fewer variant combinations. Retail likes this - because they don’t have deal with as much inventory and as many SKU’s, which means less sales forecasting + less capital + less out of stock + less sales rack inefficiencies + less work.
